On Tuesday, a new witness within the Madlanga Commission, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has alleged that Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is closely linked to Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, as well as being linked to a wealthy businessman in Sandton who has mining interests in the North-West province.
Witness “A” described in his testimony that he was called by the Head of Organized Crime in South Africa, Richard Shibiri, as they had arrested multimillionaire, Katiso “KT” Molefe, back in December.
Witness A stated that Shibiri had informed him that Molefe was part of a group that had mining interests in the North-West, one of the people in this group being a close associate of Malema’s.
The wealthy businessman who is closely linked with Malema is known as ZE Nxumalo. “He told me that Molefe was part of a group of five individuals with interests in the North-West. He also said another guy, known as ZE Nxumalo, who stays in Sandton. He said ZE is a close friend of Julius Malema who is a politician, who tends to be close to general Shadrack Sibiya” said Witness A in his testimony.
Witness A is said to be a detective who is currently investigating various criminal cartels, and gave an account of how his team was able to solve the case of the murder of Vereeniging based engineer, Armand Swart.
Him and his co-witness who has also remained anonymous, referred to as Witness B, are under 24-hour surveillance at a safe house.
“I have met the families of the victims and when I speak to them, they are grateful for the work that we are doing as a team. Even those families where arrests have not yet been made, they appreciate that someone is working on the case to bring justice to their loved ones. The satisfaction that I am making a difference.” said Witness A as he continued to break down.
In conclusion to his ceremony, Witness A took a moment to commend Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for his integrity, for the press briefing that started all the chaos of the Madlanga Commission. Witness A also added, as he gave evidence off camera as well as from a remote location, that he does not regret the work he has done, despite the danger it put his family in, and went as far as stating that he would even do it again.
