The government of South Africa, continues to vocalise that action should be taken against the United States for capturing the President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro as well as attempting to invade the nation of Venezuela, after America had unleashed bombs on the nation’s capital.

Since 3 January 2026, the globe has been taken by storm due to the recent attacks perpetrated by the American government, and South Africa along with other states around the world have continued to condemn these actions and are repeatedly calling for the US to act in accordance with international law.

The South African government has expressed that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will need to act decisively against the actions of the United States, and failing to do so will result in anarchy. President Maduro has chosen to plead not guilty to drug charges in his court appearance in New York on Monday.

The UNSC have relegated to debating about the issue as a means of critically assessing the issue, while the majority of the world leaders have chosen to completely condemn America’s actions.

Mike Waltz, who serves as the United States representative in the United Nations (UN) has gone ahead to defend his country’s actions by expressing that Maduro is in fact affiliated with drug trafficking and drug cartels alike.

At the first UNSC meeting of the year, South Africa highlighted that the United States had breached the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela, sentiments which are shared by Venezuela’s neighbouring country, Colombia.

The South African deputy permanent representative of the UN, Jonathan Passmoor, had delivered a statement; “If we do not stand up for the sovereign rights of any nations or states when they are undermined wantonly violated, then which one of us is safe or is guaranteed protection by the principles of the charter and international law” said Passmoor.

“The United States will not waver in our actions to protect Americans from the scourge of narco-terrorism and seeks peace, liberty, and justice for the great people of Venezuela” said Mike Waltz in rebuttal to the condemnation of the United States over its actions.
