Veteran Police Captain Mandla Maseko, had allegedly murdered his 39 year old female partner before ultimately murdering himself in Grootvlei on Saturday and is currently being investigated by the Mpumalanga SAPS.

According to reports, Maseko was visiting his partner who is also regarded as a friend, at her home who was visited by her sister at the time. The two women had refused to open the door for him as this caused aggression and ultimately broke into the house by breaking the window in order for him to gain entry.

“It is said that he further chased the sister, leaving him alone with the female friend. The sister went to seek help, and police were alerted.” said Police Spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo.

By the time the authorities had arrived they already found the body of the colonel and his partner on the ground with gunshot wounds.

The police have launched an official investigation into murder and inquest in regards to the incident. “They were both declared dead at the scene. A service pistol issued to the captain was found at the location” said Masondo.

Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi who serves as Acting Provincial Police Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga had also expressed his grief over the incident and given his condolences to both families of the Captain and his partner.
