Attorney, Chinette Gallichan (35 years old) , was shot and murdered by unknown assailants near the CCMA offices on Monday. Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi has stood up to condemn the murder of the attorney in Johannesburg’s CBD.
Gallichan was reportedly attached to the legal team of Sibanye-Stillwater’s legal team as she was working on a labour dispute on behalf of the company before her untimely demise. No arrests have been made so far regarding the murder of Gallichan as a full investigation has been launched regarding the incident.
“The minister noted that investigations are ongoing and called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, in line with due process. Minister Kubayi extended her sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as to her colleagues in the legal fraternity” said the Minister’s spokesperson Terrence Manase.
Graham Block on behalf of The Run-Zone Athletics Club has given tribute to Gallichan and has offered their support towards her husband. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of the life of one of our members to a shooting downtown Joburg.
Chinette Gallichan, you are gone way too soon, champ. We will miss you dearly” said Block. “You had the most beautiful smile-the kind that lit up every room and warmed every heart. You were always ready for the next race or life adventure, especially alongside your husband Keegan Gallichan. You showed us what it means to live boldly and with purpose” said Nadine Gouws on an instagram post.
Gallichan obtained her LLB degree from the University of South Africa, which followed a post graduate diploma in Labour Law with distinction at the University of South Africa (UNISA). In her career she held a position as director at De Beers, a director at Geldenhuys Van Reyneveldt as well as a business partner at Hinrichsen Attorneys.
