A growing number of countries have reaffirmed their position in support of Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, highlighting the importance of the initiative as the most serious and credible solution to end the dispute.

Morocco continues to rally support for its Autonomy Plan as the only feasible political solution to end the Western Sahara dispute.

TO start with, Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gordan Grlic-Radman conveyed his country’s position in a joint declaration adopted following talks on Wednesday with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

The Croatian minister also renewed his country’s support for the UN-led political process aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution between all parties to the dispute.

In the other side, we have also, Hungary which reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, reaffirmed his country’s position during a press conference following his meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Budapest.

Furthermore, Estonia reaffirmed its support for the autonomy plan, presented in April 2007 by Morocco, to settle the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, describing the plan as “a good, serious and credible basis for a solution agreed between the parties”, while “encouraging other governments to join this position”.

This announcement was made by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna at a press conference, following talks in Tallinn with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, who is visiting Estonia, the first by a Moroccan foreign minister in the country.

In addition, Moldova, in its turn,  expressed, its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco to definitively settle the regional dispute over its Sahara, considering it the most serious and credible basis for the settlement of this dispute.

This support was expressed in a Joint Declaration adopted following talks between the Minister and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, who was on a working visit to Chisinau.

Last and not least, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanja Fajon said on Friday her country considers Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan a “good basis for a final solution” to the conflict.

Obviously, many countries continue to express their backing for the Moroccan initiative as a serious and credible basis to end the dispute.
