Sarah-Jane Trent who serves as an attorney and Fraud examiner revealed corruption networks that lead all the way up to high-ranking officials of government as well as key institutions, as there are alleged honey traps that are aimed at capturing highly influential figures. She gave her testimony before Parliament’s Ad Hoc committee.
Her previous testimonies were primarily geared towards Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) head Robert McBride and her “social relationship” with her superior, however her evidence has further brought to light McBride’s connection to the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s advisor Bejani Chauke.
The Ad Hoc committee had received information that Trent and her former boss, Fraud examiner Paul O’Sullivan illegally accessed personal information in order to execute their work as they plotted the downfall of former acting National Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.
O’Sullivan gave confirmation that he had covered McBride’s legal faces amid his suspension challenge and Trent had expressed that she had met Chauke at the Non-profit organisation run by O’Sullivan called, Forensic for Justice, when her former boss reached out to someone who could communicate with Ramaphosa.
“He wanted to speak to Andile Ramaphosa to see if he would want to clear his name or give his version of events because we are opening a case and there were allegations against him. That is how I met Dr Chauke.” said Trent in her testimony.
This came to light when it was alleged that President Ramaphosa’s son had received R2 million by corruption fostered by the Bosasa Company.
“In one of the affidavits, there was an allegation against Andile Ramaphosa and Paul wanted to get in touch with Andile Ramaphosa to get his side version…Benjani came to meet us and Andile Ramaphosa came. We met him. This is how I met him” Trent continued.
