The Madlanga Commission resumed proceedings today as senior officials from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) are set to face pressure regarding allegations of controversial decision making and investigations. 

Deputy head advocate, Peter Sekunye, is testifying today at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry days after former IDAC Chief Advocate Andrea Johnson had testified at the commission. 

Johnson still remains the centre of serious allegations made against her as she allegedly was at the forefront of “Project Diversion” which was aimed at targeting senior police officials. 

The commission is also set to give the stand to Drushantha Ramsamy as her testimony was postponed from last week Thursday. Her evidence pertains to what is described as irregular internal processes within the anti-corruption unit.

Ramsamy claims that she was assigned to examine allegations that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) had misused the Secret Service’s slush fund.

The allegations had been established by an informant report which had been submitted by National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Faidel Adams. Her testimony had made significant waves when she played an audio recording of a conversation with Johnson. Johnson could be heard criticising the commission; “For him to make a comment that this is basic law 101, I’m surprised you don’t know it with your 30 years experience” said Johnson in the recording. 

The commission had also received evidence that in 2024 Johnson instructed Ramsamy to start a preliminary investigation into claims made by Adams. 

Her testimony at the commission had raised eyebrows over the authority she possessed to assign this investigation as evidence suggests that this was not a priority. The commission of inquiry is set to focus on dealings involving IDAC for the rest of the week.
