Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch received, on Saturday 30thmars 2024, the members of the Commission in charge of the revision of the Family Code and received from them the Commission’s proposals to be submitted to the High Consideration of King Mohammed VI.

In a statement to the press at the end of the meeting, Mr. Akhannouch said: “I received the members of the body in charge of the revision of the Family Code after having carried out its duties, within the time specified in the royal message sent by His Majesty the King, may God protect him, and I received from its periodic coordinator a report on the proposed amendments to the Family Code, in order to submit them to His Majesty the King, may God assist him.

He added that the commission worked in a broad participatory approach, organizing listening sessions with various actors from civil society organizations working in the field of women, children and human rights, political parties, trade union centers, judges, practitioners, academic researchers, institutions and ministerial sectors.

The commission also received memos by email, Akhannouch said. It then considered the proposals that emerged from these broad participatory consultations.

On this occasion, the Head of Government reiterated his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Commander of the Maulana Faithful, His Majesty the King, may God assist him, for having adopted this broad participatory approach, in order to find ways to allow the Moroccan family to fully play its role as a basic cell of society. I have the honour to submit to its royal examination the proposals of the body responsible for the revision of the Family Code.
