South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola attends the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian, the new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During his stay in Tehran, Lamola also met with Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s interim foreign minister, to discuss bilateral relations and significant international issues, Tehran Times reported.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in South Africa tweeted: “In a meeting with the South African Minister of International Relations, President Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of strengthening Iran-South Africa bilateral and international cooperation, including within BRICS.”
President Pezeshkian also commented on human rights, stating, “Human rights claimants exacerbate the Zionist regime’s crimes by supplying weapons and justifying their actions,” during his meeting with the South African Minister of International Relations.
Lamola has recently assumed the role of Foreign Minister in the South African unity government. He previously served as the South African Minister of Justice. The inauguration ceremony of Pezeshkian is being held today, Tuesday, July 30, at the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), with the participation of national officials and foreign delegations.
The inauguration ceremony of Iran’s president of the 14th government will feature over 70 foreign delegations and 600 journalists. High-level attendees include presidents and prime ministers from countries such as Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan. Speakers of parliaments from nations like Russia and Algeria, as well as vice presidents and deputy prime ministers from countries including the UAE and Brazil, will also be present. Foreign ministers from countries such as Tanzania and Venezuela will attend, alongside ministers or ambassadors from nations including India and Mexico. Representatives from international organizations like the OIC and Shanghai Cooperation Organization will participate as well.
