Cabinet Welcomes Progress on Jobs, GDP Growth, and UNGA Engagement

Minister in the Presidency Khumbhudzo Ntshavheni addressed the media today on the outcomes of the cabinet meeting that was held 17 September 2025. 

She expressed that the cabinet has welcomed the progress report of the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI) for April-June 2025. 

Minister Ntshavheni stated that 5,64 million young people are registered in the National Pathway Management Network (NPMN), which had exceeded the initial target of 5 million registrees. 

1.91 million had received access to temporary income opportunities with over 243,000 opportunities being seized within the last quarter.

 “Rising household consumption also reflects an improvement in disposable income and this is confirmed through improved reported inflation figures,” stated Minister Ntshavheni.

 “The government’s sustained efforts are gaining traction in creating meaningful pathways to earning for our young people” Minister Ntshavheni stated further. 

The cabinet also welcomed Gross Domestic Profit (GDP) figures which shows that the economy has grown 0.8% in the second quarter of 2025, which shows an improvement from the 0.1% figure of last quarter.

 “Eight industries recorded growth in the second quarter, with key sectors like manufacturing, mining, and trade returning to growth territory,” stated Ntshavheni. 

In terms of United Nations (UN) engagement, Ntshavheni stated that South Africa are gearing up to be a part of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA-80) which will be held in New York from 23-29 September 2025, under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.” 

The minister stated that South Africa will use that opportunity to promote multilateralism as well advocating for the human rights of those who are oppressed , sustainable development and peaceful conflict resolutions.
