King Mohammed VI chaired, on Thursday 18 September 2025, the inauguration and visit ceremony of several large-scale projects carried out as part of the restructuring and development of the Casablanca port complex. These investments are estimated at nearly 500 million dollars.
The overall project to restructure the Casablanca port complex is a continuation of the major projects undertaken by Morocco to modernize its port network and support the dynamics of economic growth. In the royal vision, it is a question of making Moroccan ports strategic levers of competitiveness, international openness and wealth creation, like the successes recorded by Tanger Med and the projects underway in Nador West Med or Dakhla Atlantique.
In Casablanca, the program includes four structuring components: the construction of a modern fishing port, the construction of a new-generation shipyard, the development of a cruise terminal and the establishment of an administrative complex bringing together all port stakeholders.
The new fishing port, mobilizing an investment of 1.2 billion dirhams, aims to improve the working and living conditions of fishermen, secure their activities and optimize the marketing of seafood. The infrastructure can accommodate more than 260 artisanal boats and nearly 100 coastal fishing boats.
It is equipped with modern equipment such as a new-generation fish hall located near the landing sites, three ice-making units, a standardized container management unit, premises for shipowners and fishmongers, as well as a seafarers’ hostel. This integrated system will not only make it possible to structure the sector, but also to boost related activities and strengthen the development of fish products.
The new shipyard, with an investment of 2.5 billion dirhams, is one of the flagship projects of the program. Its vocation is to structure and develop the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in Morocco, to meet national demand and to capture a share of international demand.
The infrastructure includes a dry dock 240 metres long, 40 metres wide and 8.1 metres deep, suitable for ships 220 metres long and 32 metres wide. It also has a 9,700-tonne lifting platform, a dock equipped with a 450-tonne strap lift, as well as 21-hectare embankments and 660 metres of armament docks.
