Paraguay reaffirms its steadfast support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara

The Republic of Paraguay has once again reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces, commonly known as the Moroccan Sahara.

At the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held the 21 October 2025 in Geneva, Raúl Luís Latorre, President of the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies, underlined his country’s “firm and consistent” position regarding Morocco’s territorial integrity. He described Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a “fair and credible” framework for achieving a lasting resolution of the regional dispute.

At the end of his meeting with Mohamed Ould Errachid, president of the Moroccan House of Councillors, Latorre stressed that Paraguay considers the Sahara as an inseparable part of the Moroccan national territory. He added that the friendship between the two nations continues to grow, based on mutual respect and shared diplomatic values.

Paraguay also expressed interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation and reiterated its intention to open a consulate in Morocco’s southern provinces, a move that would further strengthen its recognition of the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
