Ahead of the G20 Leader’s Summit taking place this weekend, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJoints) will enforce a hard lockdown around the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, where the 2-day summit will take place.
The aim of the lockdown is to ensure that no unauthorised persons may enter the premises and barricade them from reaching the event in any way.
Heads of State will gather at the event where South Africa will also be expected to hand over its presidency onto the next country which will be the United States, however US President Donald Trump has announced that he will be boycotting the summit.
“The implementation of the hard lockdown simply means that if you are not in possession of a valid accreditation to be in and around the Nasrec Expo Centre, you will not be allowed near this vicinity. All vehicles in this vicinity will be inspected thoroughly before being allowed to enter either premises,” said Tebello Mosikili who serves as co-chairperson NatJoints.
NatJoints have also clarified that the area around FNB stadium all the way to the expo centre is a strictly no-fly zone. “We confirm that from Friday, 21 November until Monday, 24 November 2025 we will be implementing a hard lockdown,” said Mosikili.
The routes that will be affected by the 2-day summit will be N1,N3,N12,R21, R24, and M1 as she also added that the roads used for convoys will be closed off which will limit movement of pedestrians, motor cyclists, motor vehicles and cyclists.
“Roads will be opened as soon as the convoys move past the affected routes…We urge members of the public to take note of these identified route road closures and to cooperate with law enforcement authorities” said Mosikili.
