The United Nations (UN) Two-State Solution Summit is being held in New York where multiple European countries which include Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Malta have moved towards recognising Palestine.

The President of the United States Donald Trump is expected to address the UN General Assembly today, as America still upholds their stance to not recognise state-hood with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanyahu expressing that “There will be no Palestinian State.”

According to the health ministry 50 Palestinians were murdered in an airstrike to Gaza as this conflict has killed over 65,000 Palestinians.

Approximately 80% of the member states in the United Nations have formally recognised Palestine as a state as Israel continues to expand its settlement in the occupied West Bank.

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon has emphasised that the US and Israel will not participate in the summit stating that the two nations “will not participate in this charade”.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa leads the South African delegation in the General Assembly and addressed the assembly yesterday.

“This is a matter of great significance, not only for the people of Israel, but for all the people who cherish the ideals of freedom and self-determination,” said President Ramaphosa in his opening remarks.

“The High-Level International Conference has clearly shown that the global majority is committed to peace in the Middle East and supports the long overdue creation and recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine” added President Ramaphosa.

President Ramaphosa also stated that full access should be given to Gaza in order to provide aid for its citizens currently suffering from famine.

“South Africa joins calls for unhindered and expanded humanitarian access, encompassing all air, land and sea borders, to allow for vital aid and basic services to reach those living in Gaza,” said Ramaphosa
