The Inaugural Chicken Run

Discovery Vitality is set to host the inaugural Chicken Run in tandem with Nando’s which will take place on 8 November 2025 at Ellis Park Stadium precinct, Johannesburg. The run will start at 17:00 from 10km and 17:20 from 10km. 

The event is aimed at also highlighting the new development that is currently underway in the city of Johannesburg which is said to be teeming with a new vibrant energy that the runners will get to explore firsthand, with this new city developments being spearheaded by Jozi My Jozi. 

 The route will begin from Constitutional Hill and Nelson Mandela bridge as the runners will move through the vibrant and colourful Maharishi Sports Club and Ghandi Square. 

This run is also aimed at celebrating the importance of fitness, and the event promises that every participant who crosses the finish line they would also be helping the community of Lorentzville as a meal will be donated to a child in that community.

 “We’re so passionate about this city, so partnering with Discovery Vitality to showcase the incredible work Jozi My Jozi is doing to revitalise Joburg feels like a perfect match. And what better way to experience it than on foot, at night.” said Jess Wheeler, Marketing Director of Nandos.

 “The Vitality Chicken Run is a celebration of movement, community and Jozi’s unmistakable spirit. We’re thrilled to partner with Nando’s to create an experience that’s not only about running-it’s about showing up, having fun and making a difference. Through initiatives like Vitality Give2Move, we’re turning every step into an opportunity to uplift others and make movement more inclusive,” said Celeste Williams, Head of Marketing at Discovery Vitality. 

The event was launched with the help of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and participants of the event are encouraged to donate running shoes to communities who are in need of such essentials. 

Participants are to bring their shoe donations to the race village which will take place on 5 November at Sportsman’s Warehouse Fourways Crossing from 10:00-17:00, Thursday 6 November Sportsman’s Warehouse at The Glen Shopping Centre (10:00-17:00) and Friday 7 November at Discovery Head Office, Sandton (10:00-19:00).
