In the latest findings of the Madlanga Commission, suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu, has now been linked to alleged criminal Katiso “KT” Molefe.
Former member of the Police Killing Task Team (PKTT), Captain Maxwell Wanda, had testified before the commission yesterday and given insight into Molefe’s arrest in December 2024.
The Captain testified that upon raiding Molefe’s home, the bodyguard/driver of Molefe had expressed that the suspended Minister is friends with Molefe. The reason for the raid on Molefe’s home is due to his arrest for his connection to the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
The Captain explained that the name of the bodyguard in question is Lehasa Molefe. Lehasa stated after asking the captain for a cigarette, that Mchunu is indeed the friend of Katiso Molefe.
“He asked me a question ‘What is going to happen now because the arrested person is the friend of the Minister of Police’ I asked him who the minister is and he said the minister of police. I asked him if it was honourable Senzo Mchunu and then he said yes” said Captain Wanda when giving an account of his interaction with Molefe’s bodyguard.
Molefe is not the only criminal underground leader that Mchunu is said to have links with, as he has also been linked with Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, however Mchunu denied that he had any affiliation with any criminal underground figure before parliament last week.
On top of these statements made by Wanda, one Witness C who was also a member of the PKTT has claimed that Matlala had funded Senzo Mchunu’s presidential campaign by paying for flight tickets and accommodation for Mchunu for an ANC event held on January 8.
Witness C continued to express that top police generals have been linked to a R1.2 billion SAPS tender kickback scheme. He had implicated suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and KZN Hawks Maj-Gen Lesetja Senona in a multimillion rand kickback scheme which was linked to a R1.2 billion SAPS health services contract.
“He would say that after every payment he received from SAPS, he paid Sibiya…We didn’t understand why he was sharing all this, but he was confident and detailed about it,” said Witness C in his testimony.
Witness C who joined the PKTT in 2020, had further testified that a Sergeant F.Nkosi was stationed at SAPS head office by Sibiya, as a middle man for the kick back network.
Matlala has also confessed to drug trafficking, money lending and being connected to criminal organisations and also claimed that businessman Jerry Boshoga, who is also missing, allegedly owes Matlala R5 million.
