In a press conference held in July, the country took a turn when KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhanhla Mkhwanazi had revealed that the criminal justice system of South Africa had been infiltrated by the criminal underworld. Among the people named by Mkhwanazi is businessman Brown Mogotsi who has links to the suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Brown Mogotsi is among the latest to give their testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday as he delivered hours of testimony as personal accounts, unproved allegations, and made claims that reach to the highest level of the police force and politicians.
He had revealed that senior police officials had received large sums of payment as well alleging that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had infiltrated the highest levels of the KZN South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Royal Household.
In his testimony, Mogotsi claimed that he was working undercover for the CIA in order to gain information about South Africa’s criminal underworld, and also claimed that since 1999 he was working as a SAPS informant.
He had acted as a umKhonto weSizwe operative before working as a crime intelligence agent and also claimed that he was serving as a recruited police agent. Mogotsi claimed that he “tricked” Mkhwanazi into believing that he infiltrated the SAPS while he was actually working undercover to investigate Mkhwanazi himself.
In his testimony, Mogotsi also revealed that Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala had bribed Mkhwanazi in July at his home in Umhlanga Ridge. Mogotsi also claims that Matlala allegedly paid Mkhwanazi money to “solve his problems” and further alleged that the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola was expecting R25 million as an initial R5 million was already paid and that former Police Minister Bheki Cele had asked for R8 million.
He expressed that the plan was to bring Cele back and to dismiss the already suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya. Another explosive claim made by Mogotsi is that the late South African Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, had removed Mkhwanazi as acting national police commissioner on suspicion that Mkhwanazi was a CIA agent.
The figure known as “John Wick” in Mamelodi is Cat Matlala, according to Mogotsi, as this John Wick figure was known around the Mamelodi township in 2021 for killing members of Boko Haram as this was believed to be an act of vigilante killing in Mamelodi.
“You see when information came, commissioners it further talks to the treatment with the combination of General Mkhwanazi and King Misuzulu, how they treated the brother of King Misuzulu, Prince Simakade,” said Mogotsi in his testimony as he revealed that Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi and Zulu King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini were recruited by the CIA.
He claims that he obtained the information from sources that Misuzulu and Mkhwanazi were recruited by the CIA. Mogotsi explained that this is because Misuzulu had resided in the United States and that Mkhwanazi allegedly claimed that he was trained by Americans.
