The Madlanga has returned with a new witness testifying to the public. Witness E who has undergone witness protection delivered their testimony on camera. Commissioner, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga has granted permission for the Witness name to remain anonymous.

The Commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in order to put South Africa’s justice system on trial from corruption.

The Commission was also established ahead KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had exposed corruption by alleging that the Police Minister (now suspended), Senzo Mchunu, had dismantled the Political Killings Task Team in order to protect crime lords that he allegedly has affiliations with.

Today the commission learned that Senzo Mchunu had confronted a station commander for failing to arrest a politician from Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK).

The new Acting Deputy Police Commissioner for KwaZulu Natal, Anthony Gopaul, also testified in the commission this morning, as he gave an account of an incident he encountered with Mchunu during the KwaDukuza municipality by-elections.

Gopaul had recounted that various ANC officials, including Mchunu, had campaigned ahead of the elections and Mchunu had allegedly arrived at the local police station in order for him to raise concerns regarding Vishnu Govender who is a former ward councillor for the African National Congress (ANC) who currently serves the MK party.

“He then indicated to the station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Naicker, that while he was on his campaign trail, he was taken to some people who complained extensively about the MK party candidate Mr Dooshie [Vishnu] Govender” Gopaul expressed in his testimony.

“The complaints that he had received from them were that the police are doing nothing and they are under control of Mr Dooshie Govender and his family, who get away with doing any kind of atrocity they feel like” Goapaul testified further.
