The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) at the headquarters in Addis Ababa has drawn to a close, following the two day high-level gathering of state heads and government officials in the African continent.

The gathering saw the outgoing Chairperson of the AU and President of the Republic of Angola, Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco oversee his final assembly as Chairperson and made way for the incoming Chairperson, Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi.

The AU had highlighted the Report of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) to reflect the state of peace on the African continent and expressed there is still much to be done as conflicts, acts of terrorism and unconstitutional changes in Government, continue to be a persistent issue.

 The AU also welcomed the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) which places emphasis on transforming African food systems and advancing resilience to climate shocks.

 The assembly also praised the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) and urged member states to accelerate implementation in order to strengthen industrialisation and intra-African trade.

The Assembly had also adopted the Decisions, Declarations and Resolutions of its 39th Ordinary Session.

The Assembly also reaffirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for a just solution that works in tandem with International Law and relevant United Nations Resolutions.
