Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema’s alleged relationship with Crime Intelligence Officer, Feroz Khan, has been exposed at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
On Tuesday, the commission had planted its focus upon a series of Whatsapp messages between Khan and tobacco businessman Mo Sayed, which proves the link that Khan has to Malema.
In the messages, it is revealed that Sayed had been a middle man between Khan and the EFF leader. Due to Khan being in hospital due to a shooting that occurred last month, his evidence had been presented for him at the commission.
His Whatsapp messages were screened during the commission on Tuesday which shows that Khan had not directly spoken to Malema but had relayed messages through Sayed. Within the messages, in 2021, Khan had drafted questions for the EFF to give to the Inspector-General of Intelligence Isaac Dintwe during an appearance in Parliament.
“In the midst of this exchange in relation to questions to the Inspector-General, which General Khan wanted Mr Malema to organise, it has very much the appearance of a favour in return for a favour. An illegal favour in return for a favour” says evidence leader, Matthew Chaskalson, as he stated that the questions were designed to lure Dintwe into implicating himself.
Khan had also sent questions to Malema via Sayed, in which he requested that Malema raise them with parliament with Bheki Cele, who at the time had been serving as Police Minister.
The questions were meant to establish whether or not Cele personally knew Timmy Marimuthu, who is a convicted drug dealer. In one of the whatsapp messages, Sayed had forwarded a message from Malema to Khan which displayed a photo of Operation Dudula poster which had threatened to seek the removal of illegal foreigners by force and called a meeting on 21 June 2021.
The Commission had also received information that Malema asked for details of a VBS Bank-related police complaint against the EFF leader.
