Western Cape Police are currently in the midst of investigating a theft from a motor vehicle as Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader, Floyd Shivambu and several of his colleagues were allegedly robbed while attending a meeting at V&A Waterfront on Wednesday. 

“We were shown where to park by the security guard on duty. We went inside for our meeting and about an hour later discovered that the hired vehicle had been broken into” said Shivambu.

 Among the possessions stolen was a travel bag, a handbag, and a backpack which contained a Macbook pro laptop, two Ipads, watches, identity documents and bank cards. Shivambu had gone to review the CCTV footage with security and was able to identify a suspect.

 “We opened a case with the SAPS at Table Bay Harbour police station. There were also other victims at the station reporting similar thefts” said Shivambu. 

The incident occurred when the Afrika Mayibuye Movement had continued its nationwide physical verification of ward councillor nominees ahead of the 2026 local government elections. 

This process forms part of the party’s campaign to finalise its candidate list. Shivambu has also emphasised that this incident did not distract from preparations for the upcoming elections.
