Madlanga Commission has announced that they will be taking a two week break as this was announced by commission chairperson Justice Mbuyseli Madlanga and has stated that proceedings will resume on 15 September.
The commission has heard very troubling and explosive testimonies about how the police force have been working in tandem with criminal organisations, taxi bosses, and vehicles that have transported drugs.
Alleged crime boss, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, has become one of the most notable and closely watched witnesses since August and throughout the duration of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry’s inception.
He has consistently invoked his constitutional rights against self-incrimination regarding key questions that were linked to his controversial R360 million SAPS Medicare24 tender. He has repeatedly denied having any links with suspended Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, as well as Major-General Feroz Khan, while also acknowledging his links to other senior police officials.
Mpumalanga taxi boss, Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, has also testified in front of the commission, as he has repeatedly rejected allegations of criminal involvement while also telling the commission he had previously warned authorities about an alleged cartel that had been operating under guise of the taxi industry.
Member of parliament, Fadiel Adams’ testimony helped trigger a Crime Intelligence investigation as he had made a prominent statement in which acknowledged that some information he had provided previously was incorrect.
State advocate Drushantha Ramsamy’s testimony had raised allegations regarding an attempt to manipulate the parliamentary process involving National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Former head of the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Andrea Johnson, had faced major scrutiny regarding the handling of the Khumalo matter by IDAC.
Testimony from former National Hawks head, Deena Govender had put the spotlight on various cash deposits and allegations which involved suspended Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu.
